Not what I was hoping to do this winter, but here I am. I had noticed last spring that the transom was wet and the bottom of the stringers was questionable where they tab in. Drilled out the two scuppers and found they had rotted out.

Sooo...I pulled a section of deck and transom to allow me to do both at once. It appears as though the stringers are an upside down L? Not quite what I was expecting.

if the stringers and transom are gone, pull the whole floor and replace it all.

Could be to give the top of the stringer a wider area to hit with glue and screws in a production environment

Could be the naval architect used to work on ships as that is common for plug-welding plating to bulkheads, scantlings and ribs

Unfortunately the crappy weather we’re having is keeping me from digging into it further. I’m interested to see if the foam is wet. I’ll post some pics when I can get into it further.

One other side note, at least in the motor well there does not seem to be wood under the deck. Just glass?

UPDATE: Well, the saga continues. I pulled the old tank (120 gallons) to get a look at the stringers forward of where I had been working. This is an area that does not appear to have ever been messed with. However, upon removing the foam that had the tank wedged in, I found that the glass on the stringer only went up to about 1.5-2" shy of the deck. That's right, no cap and no connection to the deck. Not surprisingly the wood is shot. Time for another sheet of Coosa...

Has anyone ever seen anything like this? It is a pretty straight line so I assume it has always been this way.

Mine was like that. All inside the skii locker. No glass just wood where it was at the deck. Same as yours 1 1/2 2 inches down bare wood.

Based on the fact that the wood was the consistency of very moist chocolate cake but the hull is perfect (no cracks) and the deck is solid leads me to believe it was never intended to be structural. Maybe it was just a support for the deck during fabrication? Maybe it was there to hold the tank in place? Either way it’s about to become structural.

Picked up another sheet of Coosa last night. Cutting and fitting new stringers this afternoon. Hoping to start putting them in this evening.

I have a few areas that did not wet out really well that I need to go back and grind out and repair.

Its coming along good. If they didn't wet in maybe just grind those areas back out and go again. I had to do a couple ares myself
