2008 f225 four stroke, never given any problems, now it cranks and runs great, but after you start off it begins to surge and sputter, speed up and slow down,
non ethanol gas, with sta bil in tank, but gas is probable 3 years old. changed fuel filter, did not help.
planning on removing gas as a start point, any suggestions

monitoring the fuel pressure will tell if screens/filters have a problem or if sucking air and VST is running out of fuel.
3 year old gas is not good.
drain and clean up the whole fuel system

completely drain your fuel system, clean it and start over. gas older than a year is no longer gas. sta-bil extends it for about 6 months max.

thanks for your answers, I went from tank of gas every three weeks to half tank in 3 years, too much work and not enough play

lack of use is hard on the wallet and the boat/motor.

would be cheaper to use it every other weekend than deal with repairing/replacing things from lack of use.

Try draining the vst bowl and the engine mounted fuel filter and plug in a external 6 gallon tank and see how it runs
