Have the same on. Push in on the little black dot with something like Phillips screw driver, then lift up the chrome piece on that end. It pivots open and off.

awesome, I will do this tonight. Question, the throttle is fairly stiff. It works, it just takes some gumption to move it, any ideas on how to free it up some, or do I have to by a new throttle and shifter cable?

I'm going to assume you have a Bravo drive and not an Alpha. The Bravo is not designed to shift IN or OUT of gear without the motor running. While you can manage to shift it without the motor running (which is spinning the upper drive section clutch), its not advisable to do so.

About the only time the drive should be shifted without the motor is if it stalls in gear. Then moving it to neutral is required to retstart.

The Alpha drive can be shifted easy IN and OUT of gear and does not require the motor running

What problems are you experiencing?

I have a 2005 50ELPTEFI outboard. moving the throttle whether in gear or not is hard, not hard but still. It takes some humph to move it, i was going to looks at the shifter mechanism and see if it needed grease or something. This is my first outboard equip boat.
