Floating stringers?

Did rienell put these in? 88 18.5 bowrider. When I took old stringers out that were rotted there were two 3/4 inch plywood pieces that ran the length of the boat from the walk through to the engine compartment stringers. The tank was in the middle and a piece of rotted ply on top of that then carpeting on top of that was a small space for storage with the standard slotted teak cover. When I cut the floor out there was 2x4 redwood pieces screwed to the top sides of them. There were three very short pieces coming off each side and they were embedded in the foam and tabbed in but no glass covering them just resin painted on. but they were no where near the outer hull. I don't want to layout out stringers that could be wrong and could be a detriment to the hull integrity. The center stringers are a give me as are the stringers that form the engine compartment. Anyone ever heard of this?

Post some pictures as that will help with responses. You mentioned in your other thread about some previous work done on the boat :noidea: Is that correct, or is the boat original?

so my above links are unreadable to you?

They redirect me to your Photobucket acct, and are viewable, but then I get their ads and it gives their site traffic. After an unannounced, drastic change of their user agreement, why support their site w traffic.

embedded pix are better anyway, some cant access 3rd party sites from work.... althougb, we'd never surf the net from work.............

the pix in your post above (#8) are viewable

Hey ceasefire49Z;
Judging from your pictures, my opinion: someone did some "aftermarket" floor work on your boat. I could be wrong here, but that foam just doesn't look like something a factory would do - whomever did that only used about a third of the proper amount needed. Also, was the floor covered with fiberglass... looks like bare wood judging from your pics.

Looks like you have yourself a project boat there, go for it!

I looked around on the interwebs. I found a 86 Reinell it looked alot like your stringers and foam was about like your as well. Here are to pics/diagrams the guy drew of them.

One of what his came with which looks like what you got. Or had before someone fooled with it. Second is how he replaced them for extra strength. Ran the stringer beds all the way and made wider bulkheads.

Thanks for the diagram. I was thinking of something like this but this helps I have the aero marine pour foam and will insure it does not come out like what came out. The foam and stringers you see have all been pulled along with the tank hull has been cleaned and ready for stringers. Now I can start measuring and cutting. Thanks again folks for all the replies. I'll post pics when I get the stringers in.

Okay followed the diagram but added 1 more on each side off the fuel tank enclosure. Should be strong enough now.
