2003 merc 115 elpto saltwater two stroke water hose

hi there,
first time poster, long time lurker. I have a 2003 mercury 115 saltwater series elpto. I was running her for the first time this season and I noticed a little black hose coming off the fitting that eventually goes to my side output where the engine 'pees'. I have a suspicion that its a thermostat hose? I could be wrong. I have attached pictures. anyhow, I was wondering where the thing goes because its just spraying all over my block. I do not have a thermostat hooked up to my instrument panel yet, can I route it another way if it doesn't really go anywhere? Thanks. Zac

I agree. It's a static line and would do no good in attempting to measure water temp. Need sensor plugged into the block that converted temp to an analog or digital signal to be sent electrically/electronically to a temp gauge.

If you aren't using it cap it off. A bolt/screw of the correct size screwed into the end of it with a tie wrap to secure the hose around the bolt.....crude, but cheap and effective.

That's what I thought it might be. when it was running, I directed the hose away from the block and the water looked as though it was steaming. If you guys are positive it wont hurt to plug it off, you've solved my problem. I appreciate the quick response. please feel free to share any other insights or opinions. thanks. -Zac

Johnson had a good idea. How about an auto parts store....they have little trays of brass fittings If the newer national chain stores don't carry them, find an "old school" mom and pop auto parts store. Get a (looks like) ⅛" brass pipe plug. If that fails, remove the whole fitting (carefully so as to not damage your hose and take it back to the auto parts store and get an Ell ¼" plug with a ¼ or 5/16 hose barb...whichever is the size of your existing one to fit your hose.
