Hey all, just came back from the lake and had to get towed back to the marina.... sucked! We were cruising at about 3500 rpms for about 15 mins and coming into a cove so I reduced throttle to come off of plane and when I got down to about idle the motor cut out. Wouldn’t restart... sat for a bit and tried to crank it over. Started back up after cranking for a while but ran rough and as soon as I put it in gear and gave it a bit of gas, it stalled out. Temp, oil pressure and voltage all perfect. Fresh full tank of gas last weekend from my marina (93 octane treated w/ Star tron) and had it out for several hours last Sunday. Any ideas on where I should start checking? I’ve read this could possibly by an IAC valve symptom?
Thanks in advance!

If you can start and keep the motor running by giving it more throttle, and it dies when you go to idle, then that would be the IAC

Pull the fuel filter and look at its contents. might be water or maybe nothing.
Next check fuel pressure
These motors really need a scanner to check for codes

On a side subject: Your motor only needs 87 octane and your not hurting anything by running 93 except your wallet

So went back to the boat to get it out of the water and tried to start it. Just cranks and cranks. No start. Pulled the plugs when I got home and they look fine. Will pull the filter next and check.
93 is all that’s available at the marina and I slip for the season.
Thanks

Did you try putting it into throttle only and move the throttle forward a bit to start? Does the boat have the kill switch lanyard? Is it in?

Yeah put it into the fast throttle position and tried and got nothing - a little cough/slight backfire and only cranking. Yes it has the kill switch lanyard in and its tight.

Fuel pump was replaced when I had the sea trial back in May - failed during the sea trial so they replaced it on the spot and took it back out so its relatively new - I've put about 8 hours on it since.

Being a GXI you have the flat distributor cap (crap cap) and they go bad often, they can look great but still be bad. I would replace it and it if doesn't fix the problem it is still a good idea to keep one on hand

Thanks! Yeah think I’ll take the opportunity to do a full tune up while I’ve got it in the driveway. Any recommendations on plugs, wires, cap, rotor?
