A bit of cleanup to do before I tackle the bow seat area then I will be ready to pull the boat off the trailer and rest it in the cradle that I am building on wheels so I can move it around and pull the floor out with proper support.

So far I am still enjoying this and the boy hasn't lost ambition either. I am actually looking forward to grinding away so I have a nice platform to start on again. The interior is going to be all new and custom so I haven't paid much attention to what have been pulling out but I will make sure to get my measurements for the transom, floor, stringers etc. I find lot's of ideas and inspiration here on iBoats for what I want t do Thanks everyone!!! More pics to come mid week once I get things cleaned up and out.

Suggestion... That 120hp engine is OLD, and getting parts for it is not going to be easy, or cheap. Have you thought about finding a later model 3 litre engine? They weight the same, and bolt up the same engine mounts on the floor. You'd have to make a couple of minor adjustments to the cutout, but it's an easy change... And worth every cent. Just find a donor boat with the right engine and drive (post 1991), and simply swap it into your boat. Part out that old stuff and you'd probably make your money back...

Just worth thinking about. Especially for reliability...

Thanks guys. I figured I should have enough to get this done. last 2 days have been up to 42 degrees with humidity so I have not been able to go out and work on it. But that's ok, that gives me more time to look around here and get more ideas and knowledge I'm making up my list of to do's and toys to buy for it. Also looks like the search may begin for a 3 litre engine and matching drive

Thanks for the advice Chris . I may have to go that route as long as the budget allows. I work as a service manager at an RV dealership so we also have accounts with marine suppliers. All my parts, epoxy, engine parts etc I get at dealer cost a nice bonus for me especially being in Ontario Canada

But if there is anything I can't get I will of course be buying here

All the Foam in your particular boat is there for 1 main reason...Flotation!! The Feds make the boat MFG's put enuf foam in the hull to prevent it from totally sinking to the bottom. They get creative in where the put it!!!

They sure do WOG. I plan to eliminate my sky locker and will be putting foam there in hopes i can gain some real estate for storage elsewhere .

Hey Everyone.. Sorry for the long delay.. Been a busy couple of weeks with work and the family finally getting to go camping... Got to go to Owen Sound for the long weekend. Had a good relaxing time. Got home and started to get the cradle ready for the boat. All went really good

Spent a day getting the cradle made. Feel really good about it. Would love to get your input on my idea please.. If there is anything I did or am doing wrong, please let me know before I get too deep into the rip out...

Here are some pics of the building of the cradle...

Brought some 2x6 and 2x4 home from the lumber yard...





Decided I would try a kind of studded wall on both sides at the back of the boat to support it on the chines...





Some cross braces to keep the little kick walls up.



Then built a small section for the mid/forward section of the hull with some 2x6's and notched them to follow the keel...





Then the wife and I pulled the boat off the trailer and now she sits in the garage for the winter for me to work on.. The pulling the boat off went really smooth.. I used the strap on the winch to keep the trailer for sneaking away on me... Let a bit out at a time and pushed the boat off.. Was very happy how things went and no one got hurt

Today was a good day.. Spent a coupe hours with the boy ripping some floor out as well as started on the front seat boxes..



He is enjoying the destruction part

I decided to take a look at what was under the glass on the stringers.. Surprise Surprise.... Rot. I can't believe how poor these are made at the factory.. I could almost get my pinkie finger between the glass and the stringer core.. They didn't really care if it was attached or anything.. I am glad I am doing a complete on this one.. No bulkheads that I see so far except for the one in front of the gas tank.. I can put more in yes??? I plan to eliminate the ski locker as well so I can add some flotation foam in there. Doing this will hopefully allow me to have some open areas in the front bow seat boxes for maybe storage or a livewell or something.. We will see...









Well that's about it for now.. More to come as it is a cooler week this week so I will have some more ambition to be out in the garage.

Hey Everyone.. Need some advice please.. As you can see in my previous posts when I built the boat stand..
Can I remove my stringers the way it is sitting now? I am almost ready to do this but don't want to mess anything up. Should I be adding any more support?

Please let me know.. Anxious to keep digging out the rot and bad..

Just curious - what do you have supporting the bow? From your pics I see the stand with three notched posts supporting the keel a bit beyond what looks like the halfway point...

build a cradle for the forward section of the bow, then tie them all together, then rip out the rotten stringers.

I built my last cradle on the trailer the boat sat on.

In addition to what Scott said, I would also suggest getting some support, like you did under the keel, at the back part of the boat. just my $ .02

I agree with what Scott and 89 both say. Won't take long to build, but the extra peace of mind that the hull won't distort may well be worth it.
