I have an 1980's (I think 1984, sn/06558246) Mercury 2 stroke, 4 cyl engine that has an intermittent spark on cyl 2 issue. Which is MORE LIKELY to have failed, the Stator, the switch-box assembly, one of the four ignition-coils, or something else?
Here are my symptoms: I get no spark on cly 2 and I KNOW it is happening because I feel it drag. Sometimes it stays that way for a long time, then all-of-a-sudden..... WHAM! I'm off and running on all four! No warning, just WHAM!
I have an 80HP merc of almost the same age and I took an ignition coil from the 80 to try with no luck. I'm swapped spark plug wires to test, no luck. I've even swapped my number 1 ignition coil with no luck.
WHAT is my most likely cause for NO SPARK on #2?
Thanks in advance guys!
