I have an 87 Mariner 75 that the previous owner left sitting for 4 years after winterizing.
First thing: the shroud says it is oil injected, but for the life of me I cannot find an oil tank on it. I mixed up some fresh farm gas (non ethanol) 50:1 and after a bit of cranking with the old plugs in and wires disconnected to get some lube in the cylinders I put some new plugs in (ngk buhw2) and got it to fire up.
It will backfire/sputter through the exhaust every 10 seconds or so, sometimes enough to kill the engine. It will sputter a bit less and stay running at higher rpms, but I still notice it.
Idle mixture screws were set at 1 3/4 out. That seems to be the sweet spot, 1/4 turn in either direction doesn't make much difference. Half turn either direction is worse.
Someone said I might have "lean sneeze" and to run a gallon of 2 stroke with a whole can of seafoam through it and see if the carbs clean up before pulling them and rebuilding.
