Question will a mercruiser or something better than the stringer drive adapt in any way the the OMC 190 motor.

The only way I would attempt this is with a donor boat with the drive I want.

As far as mounting it to the boat that's easy and I know I will have to fill in the holes and recut a new one.

What I need to know is how the inner part of the drive will mount to the motor.

I can fabricate or machine just about anything I would need.

Is this in any way possible.

Stringer 190 is a Ford 302. It's not something that you would want to spend money hooking up to a Mercruiser... Merc DID offer Ford 302's in the 70's. 188 and 888 come to mind, but Ford quit the marine business in 1998 so while you might actually find some factory parts to make it work there is no real advantage and it will cost you more in the long run

Absolutely. (except you would be parting out your current drive and 190 engine)

You'll likely have to basically replace the entire transom and rebuild the floor floor area near it to make it strong enough. Then you'll need to find a complete donor boat with a Mercruiser engine and drive to swap over. It has been done. do a search or ask over in the Boat Restoration, Building, and Hull Repair section There's a lot of people who probably have pictures and experience doing it.

You could scrounge all the (engine and drive) parts to do it but it will be far cheaper to find a complete "fanbelt to prop" engine/drive package of your choosing to ensure you get all the parts needed. (you'll also want to get the trim pump, and engine/boat wiring harness too)

The other easier way would be to just part out or sell what you have and find a boat set up the way you like it.

I'm with Matt above, you don't want to try to keep the FOMOCO engine if you want to make what you have "better"

Regards,

Rick
