I have a 93' 225, and she is slightly missing/sneezing at idle. I rebuilt all 6 carbs (surgically clean), throttle bodies with new plugs (core AND expansion), link n synch, new duel fuel pump setup, new filters and plugs. I wrote on this board with an idle problem previously.... turned out to be water in the gas so flushed the tank and put a new water separating filter on, and problem improved, with an ass load of power. runs really well at all speeds other than absolute idle in and out of gear. if you go to rev it up from the cam roller by hand, it will sneeze and die. still idles OK, and sometimes perfectly, but not always. this is when it develops a SLIGHT sneeze at idle randomly every 15-60 seconds, and seems like its coming from the #6 cyl (bottom port side) especially when first started for a day. all recirc valves are clean. I hope it isn't my stator, as it's starting to ooze that plastic stuff. Or those magnets under the flywheel... but those were replaced 60 hrs ago. I did put 2 more degrees of timing into the idle so it would stop dying, and it seems ok now as far as stalling goes, but i couldn't hear a difference in RPM as i turned the idle timing screw out?

I bet that's where your problem lies. As soon as it starts to ooze the inside has toasted enough to melt the potting (the plastic stuff)
You should check if its in spec with the service limits.

Thanks guys. My tach is acting funny too, but i can be fairly certain it's just old and sticking, although the stator seems the likely culprit. oh well. off with the flywheel it is. This is all done in the water. on the hose i could never diagnose anything.
