Hi all. I recently purchased a Bayliner Capri 1870 for very cheap. Am going to perform a complete rebuild. Interior pretty well rotted out and all floor is non existent.
My main question is, as I rebuild the stringers, knees, and flooring, what is the best choice for the foam replacement.

Thanks

I have done a lot of reading and YouTube and I have seen many people use closed cell foam that you mix yourself, it is self expanding and more resistant to moisture than open cell foam which was used in our era of boats.
I am sure someone else will be able to give specifics for you but DO NOT use the canned foam!
Hope this gives you some help.
I'm assuming this from your question but you won't put foam in till you have the new decking installed.

I am in the same situation as yourself I just picked up a 88 bayliner capri.

Good day 88. Thanks for the reply. I found your thread after I created my thread. , I am in the same situation as you, but just started the project yesterday evening. I will get pictures up of the condition and as progress moves along.

Big question for you? On your bow boxes, how did you cut them out. I was planning on using my air saw with a hack saw blade and an ossilating tool.

I am eagerly waiting to see your completed project.

I used the 2lb. foam from U.S. Composites. My rebuild took 3 of the 16lb kits.Good luck on your project!

Thanks Steve. I will look them up. I am a couple weeks away from that step, but trying to aquire knowledge and supplies. I can rebuild a Cat D8 dozer from blade to counter weight, but this will be my first attempt at rebuilding a boat LOL.

I had to stop before that step because it's getting too cold to continue where I'm at but I had seen another post where they cut them completely out allowing the consoles to hang there for easy access which is what I plan to do myself. The wood is semi-rotten anyway because the cover on the front window leaked at that point. I am awaiting spring so I can continue . In the meantime I plan to go over the out drive assembly. I am awaiting some responses on my question about stringers and from there plan on acquiring supplies till then but if you have any more questions I know there are people out there with the right answers 😊

I just picked the boat up on Friday. Parked it and started researching. Did not touch it until after 5 pm last night. Pulled the seats out and the make shift flooring previous owner put in. Found while center of floor basically gone. Dug around the by the fuel tank a bit and found some rot in the port stringer. Going to head out and start digging deeper now.
I have a three year old that requires a couple hours of my attention in the morning on weekends, so getting a slow start today. I will post pictures this evening.

It looks like a lot but once you get everything out of your way it will be easier to see what needs to be done. I was a bit overwhelmed when I first started till I got to the bare bones so to speak plus I just keep thinking of the goal 😊
