Sounds good. Was opting to have my old one out today but a slide hammer didn’t work. Going to have to make a puller tonight. Was hoping not to disturb the seal but with the axle bearing puller I used it pulls seal and bearing at the same lick. I hope I’m doing this correct

Some recommend not bothering with replacing that seal - we are talking about the one that sits in front of the gimbal bearing, I hope. That seal was supposed to keep grease from flowing into the bilge side of the gimbal bearing. Almost all gimbals these days are sealed and we don't use the grease zerk, hence no need for a seal.

If you make up a bearing driver, it just needs to have a rim that covers the outer gimbal ring and not touch the race itself. You don't really need any measurements other than off a new gimbal bearing to make this in your lathe.

Interesting point about the seal, haven't heard that. I ordered one, so might as well replace I guess

No reason not to. I have a sealed bearing and had seal come with it, so I installed it. Pretty sure it will never accomplish anything. Certainly won't hold water out with the pressure relief slot cut right through the gimbal housing.

I’ve used a piece of 3” pvc SCH 40 pipe to drive it in. The OD lines up with the bearing OD. And as ricksaid don’t worry about the grease seal it’s not really necessary

Just finished it up. Worked longer making tools than the actual job took. Went ahead and put the seal in. On that topic is the engine compartment sealed good enough in the back that if water gets up to the drive shaft will it not spill over into the gimble if not for the seal?
thanks for all the Help. I appreciate it. Lake tomorrow!!

NICE!

And no. If you fill the bilge, there ain't nuttin to keep the water out of the gimbal bearing. There is a slot cut right through from bearing to inside of transom.
