35 amp regulator rectifier

I have a 1992 Evinrude 200xp and I replaced the water cooled rectifier and developed a water leak at the gasket . What type of gasket sealer should I use to seal the gasket I know the book calls for Johnson Evinrude gasket sealing compound. I'm not sure if it was leaking at the gasket or bolt holes because I shut it down immediately but should I use the gasket sealer on the bolts as well can water exit through the bolt holes? Is there a better material to use to seal everything like permatex and the bolts were correctly torqued at 7 to 9 NM

Having replaced the rectifier on mine by the book (using Evinrude gasket sealer) without problems I have to ask.

Are you positive you cleaned both surfaces thoroughly which includes wiping down both surfaces with a degreaser of some sort?

What gasket adhesive did you use?

I use 3M™ Nitrile High Performance Rubber and Gasket Adhesive 847 as a substitute

Did you use the sealant on the bolts as well?

I have ordered new bolts as well it calls for 2 long bolts and four shorter bolts but not sure which goes where

Go to the parts diagrams on this site or the BRP parts website and you'll see which bolts go where

What was wrong with the old bolts?

I lost one somewhere so just ordered all new ones

You do not use sealer on this gasket!!! Use the OEM self sealing gasket like below. Using sealer on threads and gasket increases chance of unit not grounding and failing. And make sure you install the grounding washer on bolt...Need to find that lost one as can get sucked into intake or stuck under flywheel which results in $$$$$

Ok thanks I haven't seen this gasket the aftermarket regulator I ordered came with the plain gasket it's CDI I'll order one of these gaskets and as for the lost bolt it was lost after taken off I put all the parts in my garage. I did order the grounding washers as well the book says it needs 2 but I only see a spot for one where paint is missing

But the seloc manual does say to use the Johnson Evinrude gasket sealer on the gasket and the bolts that's why I'm a little confused. This self sealing gasket is it self sealing on both sides the pics look like it's only one side and why would the rectifier come with a regular non self sealing gasket and the book says use the Johnson Evinrude gasket sealer on both sides of the gasket just a little confused by some of the comments

You put this in the bathroom and use it for the next toilet paper shortage..use factory manual only as LOT of misprinted info in yours..

Ok so I ordered the self sealing gasket like you stated and I use no sealing compound on the bolts I'll post updates when the gasket comes in thanks for your help
