DP-SM Outdrive problems

I got an anchor rope caught in props and heard a loud clunk. Stopped the boat, trimmed up and all seemed ok. That day it seemed to have a harder time getting on plane and ran at a bit higher RPM for the speed. I checked the gear oil at the end of the day after I pulled the boat out. It was milky, and a much bigger concern was some large flakes of metal in it. Going to drain it this afternoon. I will pressure test it first, then I assume I need to try to find/inspect damaged gears. I haven't opened up an outdrive before. Also, it may have spun a prop and I will check into that as well, but that still isn't my biggest problem at the moment. Any advice on where to start?

I am assuming that at a minimum I damaged a gear(s) and need to rebuild or more likely replace the bad lower or upper unit. So, if you have a 1.95 DP-SM outdrive for sale, let me know as well would appreciate any advice on how to proceed.

Thx

Ian

You have several things maybe going on there, the most expensive could be the metal parts found in the oil, but also it sounds like you have a seal issue. I would completely drain the drive and refill and go run it softly again to see if you problems persist. Hopefully the shifting will be tolerable, but you will at least need to get the seals replaced soon, maybe can wait until the end of season, but it will need to be done before next year. If the shifting issue may be a result of worn gears, if so, you will have to replace or rebuild.

Yeah, in order of my problem$ I would say
1.) Trashed gear= rebuild or replace
2.) Leaking seal
3.) Spun Hub

I'll know a bit more after I drain and pressure test this afternoon.

Thx
