So I just finished putting a new block in and fired it up just to find the unpleasant surprise.

Seems oil is coming out at the back by the flywheel.
Do you guys think it is just an oil pan gasket leak?
if it is so... back to engine out?

it is a omc/volvo penta ford 302 1995.

This is why many will hook up water, power and gauges to the engine and run it on a pallet before an install. Saves the aggravation of pulling and reinstalling.

I guess can come out, it was a reman block so seal is suppose to be brand new.... but...
If it is that seal, is it hard to replace once the engine is out?

True... Engine in/out about 1 hour job, I though about setting it up, but never done in my life... with an engine being new, never though would have such a huge leak. It does seem to happen after the engine is running, so perhaps rear main seal it is... bummer.

It is about the only way you will get a good enough look at it . . . You got a warranty on the 'new' engine ??? :noidea:

Hi Vasy, remember the conversation we had on the theme of buying a reconditioned engine abroad. Well, this is exactly what I was/am afraid off. I am sure it wont be a big deal or, I hope it is not. But there is no fun in it either. Anyway, good luck. Wondering what you will find.

This is my second recondition engine, first one I had from a known dealer was good and delivered and setup as advertised.
In my own stupidity, I got a second one from a different place. On the phone they said the right things but what was delivered, was not 100% as advertised.
Back to the problem, took the engine out, looks like a rear main seal as leaking and it is the two piece rear main seal, this is where the sales screwed me as I asked for a post 1980 block but got a pre-1980, so a total pita to replace. I'll try to get it over the next few days.
If I ever had to get a block, I'd go with the first company I used.

1-piece RMS is late 1983 and later for Ford
In 1985 the block was set up for roller tappets.

Well, engine out, out pan out, $30 for the new oil seal and $36 for the oil + $10 for the gasket maker and now back in business.
Initial test was ok, without oil gashing out. I guess they did not do a good job installing that seal, hope the did a better job on the rest of the engine :)
