New issue im working through. It happened yesterday as well. When the engine starts it revs really high even with the throttle closed up. I thought I may have put tps in wrong so adjusted that but still reving way high.
I also could not shut the engine down with either the kill switch or the key. I had to jump in bilge to pull fuel relay out. I replaced both start switches today and had the kill switches jumped out until my new ones come in next week.
Damn gremlins first it didn't want to start now it doesn't want to shut off or rev like it is trying to self destruct...any help greatly appreciated

Just thought about something on the way home. It may explain my issue...The engine runs off the signal from the alternator one the key is in the on position after it has cranked. Noticed while I was chasing wires and troubleshooting that my alternator is getting warm as if the field is excited while the key is in the on position although the engine is not running. I noticed it on both engines but did not give it much thought until now that the engine has almost run away from me two times. Could tthe alternator issue be my problem with the switch and kill switch not killing the engine when they are supposed to?
Thanks
Joe

Don't think its the ALT, mainly because both are doing it. With motor OFF check power to the coil and most likely it has power, find where its coming from

THis will be with the key in the off position right? THey are both getting warm with key on to trace the electrical current and all the relays.
thanks

Yes off, you said they would not shut down

Understand if key is ON they might get a bit warmer from the field winding being ON

No current to coil in off position.port engine will shut off at the key but stbd will not. Im gonna chase some wires back from the console and see if there is something there.
The heat in alternator is when the key is on position. Not hot just warm so was not sure if that is an issue.

Thanks
Joe
