Any that similar shaped painted black with blue or red decal up to very late 70'sLooking to swap out the original with a new one. Any ideas of who carries something compatible> There are a million on Ebay and it is daunting.
Thanks!
Bought the boat used, just wanted to spruce it up current, I could stay original and paint it I guess, but also, since I got it on a deal, the motor works, but the electric to it is not reaching the engine to electric start. So I may end up having to have it rewired as well as a new control box unit. What is the issue with the control box that you have ?
Thanks, big help!!! The new Ebay ones they have anywhere from $144 to 177 are no good for the older models, correct?Any that similar shaped painted black with blue or red decal up to very late 70's
any before the 2000 Commander
Keep in mind; that if original, the wiring will be in terrible shape
Yes, the previous owner did say it was 12 volts. There may well be a difference in the wiring from ignition switch.----The 1965 motor might be 12 volts to coils to run.----The newer controls might be OPEN to run and grounded out to stop the motor.
Just to be clear the power will be 12 volts regardless of how the ignition set up is.Yes, the previous owner did say it was 12 volts.)))
IF........the mechanism is not too worn-out???????(controls box)Bought the boat used, just wanted to spruce it up current, I could stay original and paint it I guess, but also, since I got it on a deal, the motor works, but the electric to it is not reaching the engine to electric start. Thank you so much, all of you, what a great forum! Yes, and the previoius owner gave me a battery. It was tested, but there is a short somewhere, so yes, new box and I will just rewire and overhaul for security. You know how it is, you buy used, the guy is cool, then you find out little trinkets you didn;t know, so I'll just redo it. HUGE HELP FROM ALL!! Here is the boat I got for $1000.00! I know she is a rehanb project, but good bones, Slickcraft 1965. My Dad, back in the 40's used to race for Mercury and Chris Craft. Ironically, we had this same kind of motor on one of his smaller boats, but have always been fond of the Merc products and Iconic look. What goes around comes around in a great way! Later on, my Da always had offshore Donzi's... you can't take the speed demon out of a guy once he tastes it. HA!@IF........the mechanism is not too worn-out???????(controls box)
then I would replace all the wiring in it front to back all the way to the engine.(you'll probably have to re-wire/replace wire on the engine side also)
