From here with that 26" measurement I say the motor is an EXTRA LONG model.

My short shaft Mercs measure 17", my long shafts measure 22" and my one Extra Long shaft measures 27". That's measuring from the lowest possible mounting hole to the AV plate.

If the 26" dimension in your pic is correct, if you visually scale the picture the setback looks more like 18", not 9.5. Recheck that dimension.

Retake picture #7 with the motor down.

Further update, you guys were right, was a boat with an inboard motor converted to an outboard one probably locally. So if the motor was measured from the lower swivel bracket to the AV plate and dialed 26" it's a XL motor, right ? Tomorrow will take pics with the motor set fully vertical, new owner has agreed in going for a water test.

yes 25'' is extra long, 20'' long and 15'' short. people incorrectly keep calling a 20'' motor "short". for what it's worth, my 1996 four winns horizon 190 was a 25'' transom. most all of them were starting early 90's that took v4 and v6 power.

Yep, that motor is quite long compared to any 20 shaft one. One thing is watching a boat out of water as in previous pics other on water, so the title of the thread is wrong.

After further investigation pic 5 was shot with motor sitting flat on transom that's why the back water hump. Went for a partial water test with 3 up, the water was bit choppy and windy. While applying power gradually with trim set to neutral and the boat rising from the hole, there's was a bit of water lines spaying side of the lower middle leg.

Once on plane at 3 K the combo performs quite well, were not able to go for a full wot run to check if that SS Mirage 19 pitch is what the motor needs for min 2 to max 4 light passengers on board.

Took some shots of the water flow at full plane passing through the lower leg could not determine if the flow is passing around 1 or 2 ? can someone determine so.

Although the motor is equipped with a hydraulic steering system, was disappointed to find out the steering to be slow responsive compared to a tiller steering motor and the front seats are way low for a clear vision up front. Could run into anything that floats and never know about it. Coming weekend will do wot run tests....

The seat height may be a moot point. Changing the propulsion source may have upset the planing attitude. Sounds like its a standup boat now.

I don't like hydraulic steering either. I have only owned one, and the response is not as fast as a cable system. Of course, if you are used to tiller inflatables, anything else must seem to have poor response and visibility.

Leave it be as passing at 2 for a ski rig.
The new owner doesn't like skiing nor pulling water toys, wants a combo for cruising at half throttle due to high fuel consumption. So the zoomed pic confirms is passing under 2 ? If so, that's my sweet spot and I don't ski or pull water toys either lol !!

From the pic I can't tell where the wash is passing. If it is truly under #2, then OK, the boat should run acceptably without the churning identified in the first post.

However, if fuel consumption is an issue, and the operator isn't pulling toys, and thus doesn't need to make 90 degree rapid turns, then having it pass under the whale tail will give him better performance. First, the fin will do its job by getting the boat on plane fast with little bow rise, and then when running at half throttle it will be out of the water providing less drag and better fuel economy.

My SeaRay has a similar OB mount and transom configuration. I'm running the engine a little higher and achieving outstanding performance.

The issue with poor front visibility is because the windows are bit tinted and not 100% transparent, seats are low, can't see much what's in front of the bow to react fast at an emergency...

The combo planes very easily at less than half throttle, no need to play with any trim setting aside from neutral, seems the previous owner installed a prop for wake boarding. Till the combo is not tested at wot lightly loaded won't know if the motor will over rev ? That 150 HP motor it's a powerful beast lol!!

My Rib boating friends have installed center consoles with remotes and standard steering systems on their Ribs, but the steering is not neat at close turns compared to a tiller motor along slow reaction at an emergency. Just 2 different type of water toys that can't be compared...
