I am replacing the water pump on a 4 HP Evinrude. I believe the year is about 1969. It's a direct drive. You can see the lower unit below. Of the two screws holding the impeller casing down, one came out easily. the other was missing the head. With one screw out and one missing the head, the impeller casing should lift off but mine is stubborn. I don't see a slot to pry it. Should I grad within the slots by the drive shaft and attempt to pull it? Any tricks to remove this stubborn component. I don't think I need to easy out the broken screw to get this cover off. The hole in the pump housing gets jammed with that white powder ( aluminum oxide ) and locks it up.---A few taps with a small hammer.----A bit of heat may help here.

don'T forget...
Crosbyman, What are you trying to illustrate? The cutaway view shows a small passage just under the riser tube connector. Anything I need to free or loosen before I try further to separate the impeller casing? Buster7

Your location ?----Find a new / used housing , perhaps on E-bay.-----Then bust that housing making sure that the broken screw stays intact.----Use heat to remove broken screw.-----Easy fix here.

just clean out the passages when reinstalling the pump cover

Racerone,
I'm in Atlanta, Georgia. I'm going to try the heat, perhaps penetrating lubricant first, before I break the cover. Once the cover is off, I should have enough shank exposed of the broken screw to get some vice grips on. Buster7
