I just bought a 1988 sea Ray Seville and when I went to winterize it I realized that they guy before me must have sealed the Vent and drain for the gear oil. Is this some sort of conversion you can do to not have to change it? Should I scrape out whatever is on there and replace these with the screws? Just want to know before I go and blow up this outdrive.image.jpgimage.jpg

Wtaf is going on there? I guess I'd scrape it off and see what's underneath, but damn.

Yeah when I saw that I was incredibly confused. I didn't even think to look when I bought it because why? I'll scrape it off and see. Hopefully he did it because it leaked and didn't want to replace a seal?

Those o-rings are $0.50 a pair and available everywhere, so...
Maybe the threads are buggered from trying to drill out old plugs. Regardless, if that was the solution, I'd go through the rest of the boat *very* carefully.

Hopefully its OK, I've seen people do that with drainplugs before. People think it helps seal it up.

Hi. This guy has clearly previously had a Volvo Penta outdrive from the 80’s and assumed the alpha one has the same issues. This is a well known precaution taken with old VP drives. No need for it with these. Change the fibre washers each time and you’ll be good.
