Hey all, I've got a 6hp Mercury ~Early-Mid 90's.
Where does mercury put their model #'s? There is NOTHING on the transom bracket anywhere? Should there be? Is there somewhere else on them that may indicate model number, or serial number even?

I usually deal with older Johnnyrudes but am taking a look at this one for a friend, first time working on a Merc any info is appreciated.

Cheers.

Any pics. Think it should be on the bracket usually. I’d be able to tell you the age within a year or two from a picture I’d think.

Will get some under the cowl shots this weekend if that'll help.

Was able to get this on the stand this weekend and get the serial number off the power head.
From this and a search on the google machine, I was able to determine that it is a ‘94 model 1006201PD.

Symptoms are rough idle, trouble starting and would often quit at low idle.
I’m suspecting the carb needs a good cleaning, so I’ll start with that. Any other recommendations, I am all ears.

There’s no “air box” or “air silencer” over the carb intake, looks like there should be one based on the parts list I’ve come across online.

Cheers,
JG
