Guys, what do you think of this idea?

I’ve got a semi decent 1995 50 hp Evinrude triple and a worn out 1990 70 hp Johnny motor.

i was saving the 70 for a rainy day power head rebuild but it looks like someone has been in the motor once before. so not sure if it’s a good rebuild candidate. (Crank wear, over bore size etc)

so wondering about swapping the 70 carbs and head over on to the 50 to make a 70 if compatible.

also thinking of swapping the flywheel and ignition. The cast Flywheel on the 50 is a chintzy excuse for a flywheel. Is that a) doable, b) worth doing?
thinking of topping it off with a set of composite performance reeds

thoughts?

is there anything superior on the 1995 models over the 1990s? Ignition carb systems etc.
as mentioned I feel the 1990 Fly wheel to be superior, but correct me if I’m wrong That I have to switch over the stator coil and everything. And if so, are the 1990 components as good?

Ultimately I want to 70 hp but the one I bought is way too tired. So I bought the 50 to get me by.

And since I basically have a 70 hp parts motor, why not put them to use. Where is this Franken-rude thing just a bad idea?

And well I just like to talk about boats and motors and anything to do with it

People often think that ---" new is better "------Not always true.-----New is often more complicated / harder / more expensive to repair.----Take that 1995 flywheel as an example.----One piece cheaper to make / junk / no longer available new !

What do you guys think about composite performance reeds for fuel economy and performance?
Anybody try them and found positive results? I’m thinking about Chris Carson reeds

I install em in customer motors when requested. All around operation is improved but no they will not provide better economy or plug fouling
