1973 Evinrude Triumph 65 HP

I am kind of new with outboard motors I bought a trailer- boat- motor, I thought the price was right, which was sitting for 10 plus years parked outside but was never in saltwater.
Long story short motor looks really good and clean and after I took carburators off and cleaned them it then started right up and seemed to run good with earmuffs
My son lifted the engine into transport I remember but I left it down for 2 months 'cause I was busy and when i had time to test it in a lake I could not lift the motor, it was stuck in down position and therefor could not get it into the water
During the winter I came to the conclusion that the assist shocks were stuck and I mean really stuck
I removed them which was not really easy and pulled them apart which was also not easy. I was scared at first thinking of a heavy duty spring inside but decided, it could not be when I had shock in my hand they were too light to hold a spring
My conclusion is that oil ran out and pistons rusted a little bit
Piston has a little hole and and a little checkvalve that is a bit rusty I am soaking it right now, seals are not looking really bad but they must have leaked
My questions are :
1 what oil could I use
2 is there such thing as a electric trim unit that fits that motor instead?

I am playing with those assist shocks with more or less oil and at one point I could not depress one of them like an airpressure feel, did not quite understand it.............

Interesting topic. I didn't know the shock absorbers were a repairable item, replace only.

To be sure, they come apart easy enough, repair? I am not sure yet
I happened to see today a piston on ebay that showed an o-ring on the piston, mine is just a steel piston without a groove
As mentioned before there is a little check-valve (tiny ball with spring) that is rusted bad on mine, I can see me fixing that however.
I also like to mention that I don't see anything to put extreme high pressure in it other then generated by the weight of the motor.......?

Just in the process of figuring out an tilt setup for an 1973 Evinrude 85 I just bought.
It currently has the 2 assist shocks but after scouting around looking this is what the OEM setup was for that vintage.
The pump bolts to the starboard side if the mount and the hydraulic cylinder goes in place of the starboard side assist shock.
Buddy wants $700 for this in the picture so I’ll be building something custom more current so that rebuild parts are attainable.
