Stringer contour question

Does anyone have a trick for the best way to contour new stringers to match the side to side pitch of the hull? I was able to salvage the old stringers to get the bow to stern curve, but they were totally rotten and any bottom angling was unrecognizable.
I got it to match pretty well by literally trimming and checking, trimming and checking, a million times, but would love to know if there was an easier way for me to do it.

Well I would assume you will be placing them into thickened resin to stick them in place and that will take whatever shape the bottom of your stringers are so its no problem.

Workworking stores and the Home Despot carry profile gauges. They have many thin rods (think 8d finish nails), in a row, in a friction holder. You press the gauge into the area you are trying to profile and the steel rods slide to match the contour. Then trace onto the stringers.

I did a guesstimate on mine and used a belt sander to get it in rough shape by eyeball and then used PB to bed them.

That’s what I was going with originally, but wanted to get a tighter fit. I didn’t do anything to match the contour at first and just wasn’t feeling the way they sat. I ended up getting the contour “good enough” and letting the resin fill the voids.

That’s kinda where I’m at with it. I was going to just let it slide and slap a bunch of resin down but changed my mind and figured I’d try to get it close enough to minimize over utilizing my resin.

Minimizing resin is a worthy cause, I just bought my 4th 5 gal bucket, the price went up from $150 for last one to $175 for this one! Luckily I should have plenty to finish now(i hope).
