Hey.

I just recently bought a new outboard motor, and want to run it on land. Therefor i need to know where to connect the water muffs, or water hose to get freshwater running inside the outboard.

I've attached som pictures of the motor, if anybody could help localise the water intake.

- Jacob :)

That's a good question and interesting lower unit. Did the previous not tell you? Do you have a trash can you can hang the lower unit in and see what happens? Have you unscrewed the plug that's labeled wash to the left of the top oil level plug to see what's in there? Looks like it was treated rough, did you see it run before you bought it?

The previous owners did not say anything about it, but I don't think they ever flushed the motor with fresh water. But I have a mechanic, who looked at the motor prior to the sale. So the motor is running perfect, and we have already used it many times. Our mechanic said it had a pretty good water "spray", out of the back of the motor, when he ran it in a pool if water. I'm Danish and can't remember what the water jet out of the motor is called!
I haven't unscrewed the wash bolt yet, but I also don't really know the usage of the wash bolt. Can u flush the motor through that hole, and use it as coolant while the motor is running?

It looks like the water pickup is in the snout behind the prop. If you take off the rectangular plate with the screw in it just above the anti cav plate you may be able to attach muffs.. Your best bet is to use a barrel though.

If you don't know when the water pump was replaced last you may want to replace it. The water stream you're referring to is called the telltale or pisser. I'm guessing hardwater fisherman may have answered your question about the water intake and if true it would be better to flush it in a tank of water. The wash plug wouldn't have anything to do with the intake but it would be interesting to find out what it's for.
