Reverse Rack and Pinon Helm direction?

My steering is backwards for my rack and pinion helm setup. I have my steering cable coming from the back, running up the right side of the boat and rack facing the left side of the boat. Steering wheel is on the left side of the boat also.

Can I rotate the rack gear to fix/reverse steering direction or do I have to make sure the cable rack is facing the right side of the boat instead? I ran it on the right side facing left due to clearance and less turn bend radius required than running it up the left side facing right.

1623715431478.pngconsidering the rack can only be installed one way, reversing the direction is not possible unless you relocate helm to the stbd side

I didn't know if I was missing something. That is what I figured, I have to switch up the rack facing direction.

The rack needs to set on top of the pinon gear. The bolts go in from the top.

That is how I have it of course. The cable only pulls one direction which is opposite my steering wheel currently. I have to face the rack the opposite direction I currently have it, just wasnt as much radius bend/space as previous steering rack because it was shorter than the replacement rack.

Well, I am not sure what your issue is.
Steering rod goes into tilt tube on motor from starboard side, right?
Steering cable travels up starboard side, right?
Rack is parallel to stern, right?
Steering "head" is installed with pinon gear facing up, right?
Opening in rack casing faces down, right?

My steering cable travels up the starboard side and the rack runs parallel to the helm, faces the port side, and connected to the steering pinon gear (opeing in rack facing down of course resting and secured to the pinon gear facing up). The steering works but my steering direction is reversed.

I needed to run the steering cable up the port side instead so the end of the rack faces/points to the starboard side instead. That way when I turn the wheel to the right the cable is extended and when I turn to the left the cable is retracted. Currently when I turn right the cable is retracted...
