Good Afternoon everyone
Here's my story. I purchased a 2002 maxum 2300sr with a 5.7 mercruiser last august. This year I got a new long block since the old block was 20 years old and had water in it (insurance covered it). My Mechanic put it together and everything was running fine. I just replaced the thermostat as the old one must have failed as it was running hot. I know that should have been changed when the motor was pulled. I was out on the water on Fathers day with my dad and about 2 hrs in the ignition fuse popped. we had a friend tow us back. I believe I found the problem with the radio bouncing on the ignition switch and a connection coming undone. the engine was started in the slip and ran fine. 1 day later I went to take the radio out and update the Spade terminals to Ring Terminals. Wiring it back up I mistakenly mismatched the connections. The engine would then start then stall and pop the fuse. I then decided to buy a new ignition switch and the engine fired up. The only problem is now while in the slip I put it into neutral and would get to like 2800 rpms and it would sputter once or twice every minute?
Do you think the bad wiring of the ignition switch messed something up?
My mechanic said you shouldn't be revving that high in neutral and thats the problem. I myself believe there is a bigger issue here though. I am therefore nervous to take it out of the slip as he thinks there shouldn't be a problem. He did think it might be the breather hose to the flame arrestor though.
Just looking for some more input
Edit: the serial number is M324812
Thanks
Kyle
