Hey guys, I just purchased a 1989 Capri with 2.3 OMC cobra. The prop that is on it is a 13 3/4 x 15 and it's all chipped up, I need to replace it but I want to be sure that is the correct prop for the boat. I want to do some skiing, tubing and fishing. i've sent a couple e-mails but got no reply. can anyone suggest a prop (3 or 4 bade)?
i've been looking at this one: http://boatpropellers.iboats.com/OM...-130-15_Propeller/481/6234/?cart_id=561294571

thanks!

welcome aboard

not sure that little 2.3 has enough power to ski behind it

definitely would not put a 4-blade prop behind the 2.3

did you take the boat out for a test run prior to buying it?

Unless it is really beat up I would put it in the water first and and see where it lands WOT rpm wise before buying anything. Or just get yours repaired if you have a local prop shop typically aluminum props are like $85 to fix

It's Stainless and chipped up with some bends at the ends of the prop

Test current beaten up starting prop and report max wot rpm acheieved as loaded on flat calm water conditions. Ideal would be for the motor to rev towards its max wot rpm range, which is ? Will know if in need to go to less prop pitches and by how much to pull wot revs up.

Happy Boating

if the ends are folded over, take it to a prop shop and have it repaired. if the dings are minor, take the prop off and use a hammer and dolly to straighten the blades for a test run

Stainless will be a little more to fix. Would highly reccomend fixing what was on there and tyring it out before spending on new props. If you have no track record with a boat and not much experince selecting props you'll probably end up wasting money on the wrong stuff

I removed and straightened the prop as best as I could, it looks much better. what is optimum for WOT rpm and MPH?

WOT RPM will be 4800 RPM

however with your new to you boat, you did all the maintenance the prior owner did not do before he pulled this boat out of the weeds behind is barn, correct?

raw water pump change
service the points and set the timing
fluid and filter changes
outdrive gear oil change
u-joint and gimbal bearing inspection
bellows change
alignment

top speed in the low to mid 30s at best
