Hey all,

I am in the process of putting my boat back together and when wiring everything back up, i am not sure where my ignition coil is supposed to be receiving power from. On my alternator there is only one post for the orange wire. The purple and red wires along with it were always capped off. Where can i (or where did i maybe?!) get power to the ignition coil. It already has the starter ignition boost wire coming from the starter, i am just not sure where to grab power from for the coil. I have ready that too much voltage may fry the points, so i haven't just wired it directly to an ignition source to it to test.

Any help would be great!

Thanks gents.

Your engine should have a resistor wire in the harness. With the ignition on and the points are open you will read 12 volts. With the engine running you should be reading around 8 volts on the Bat side of the coil.
The 1 wire alternator is a lot cheaper to repair than the original one that came with your engine.

When I replaced mine I used an ARCO with the B+ terminal and Excite and Sense terminals, the hook up was easy and it has always worked well.

Might the resistor wire be a black with red striped one? There is a red and black wire hooked up to the resistor now that i cannot trace back into the harness as it gets sucked into the main harness.
