We bought this boat new, but used it infrequently in the last few years. Recently I asked my boat mechanic resurrect it. It is beautiful, but on the river, it will run for about an hour and then start missing out. It has a Mercruiser I/O. The engine dies and have to wait to restart. The mechanic says it has an "electric" carb. I think he has checked it thoroughly. Does anyone know what can cause this? When it runs, it is great. I am so anxious to get it out, but don't like going out not knowing if I can back it back to marina. I will appreciate any and all ideas that you have.

Thank you for the Welcome Aboard and for your reply.
It is a Mercruiser Stern Drive. The manual I have for it says Models 120MR-140 MR I will text my mechanic to get more info.
I am trying to get pictures to attach, but Iphone is not cooperating.
Any ideas will certainly be appreciated. Although the humidity is horrible here, I would love to get out on the river.

First thing is standard maintenance. Check fuel quality is especially important - do you know how old the fuel in the tank is?

Filters, points, condenser change. Set dwell. With the age, getting a baseline condition by checking compression is important.

Personally, I'd kit the carb. No, it isn't an electric carb.

Thank you so much. The mechanic originally thought that it got water in the fuel. I had it in the boat dock at home for years and recently moved it to inside storage in a marina. I thought he drained the old fuel out. He also mentioned that it might have "gunk" in the fuel tank, but don't know what he did about that. I will ask him again what he meant by electric carb.
