Thank you for the quick reply and the welcome! The drive is still apart, as I haven’t yet installed the water pump and put it back together. The oil leak is from the upper unit, what might be described as the upper shift assembly. Sorry no, 'oil leaking is not going to be normal...When you removed the lower gear housing from the top driveshaft housing, did you reinstall the little oil seal that's between the two part assemblies during reassembly as that could be one reason of a few that it's leaking oil.

I should add, I do have the vent screw removed in the upper housing still from when I drained the drive oil before separating.Thank you for the quick reply and the welcome!
