While changing gear oil I found metal chips on the lower unit drain plug. There was only minor fur on the stem. Upper was clean. Please see picture. Thoughts? 20211202_204943.jpg

Probably does need looked into. Put drive in neutral and rotate prop shafts and feel for roughness and listen.

No rust or contaminated lube? If you have time, pull and examine before next season. But, I fish way offshore and it would be a long pull ride home if it exploded while out 100 miles???

Drive is off, on a stand and in my garage. Drive lube was bluish green.

Some of that doesn’t look like it’s metallic…but the bottom one looks like it for sure..and perhaps more concerning is that it looks like it’s been coloured by heat. Or it may just be the photo. Looks a blue colour to it perhaps ? How does the oil smell ? Generally there isn’t too much, if any serious metal swarf to be found in a bravo…as far as my limited experience has seen so far.

The three pieces circled are definitely metal and magnetical attracted to plug. Gear oil was bluish green very new looking no abnormal odor.
