This motor runs well as is. Sort of an art deco look . It's been stored inside over many winters. Is there any reason to change points and condensers and coils at this point. I put a new water pump impeller in and pressure tested the bottom end while changing the fluid. Tested good and no leaks of oil although I see some on the water surface when testing in a barrel. At 25:1 oil mix she reminds me of days on the water as a kid with a cloud of blue smoke. Might be exhaust or ? I have a new Tohatsu 20 coming this next summer. What's a fair price for the '60 Evinrude?

In my eyes don’t fix what’s not broken.
It’s normal to see an oil sheen in a barrel especially at 25:1.
Those motors sell in my area Cape Cod Ma for around $300 to $400 but as with anything it’s worth what someone is willing to pay. Condition is everything and it sounds like this one is in pretty good shape.

Those 18 HP and the 25 HP were produced to 1976.----Sweet running motors.----I would never get rid of a good one in favour of a modern " built with plastic " offshore motor.

for what you will why not just get keep it as a spare .

If worried about the pollution (oil/Fuel) dumped overboard by the internal crankcase purge valve you can burn bio friendly oils . more expensive than wallymart stuff but friendlier.

or... if really worried you could consider altering the purge valve system and route the crankcase excess juices back to the fuel tank with another hose or....into a container to be emptied back in the fuel tank at the end of the day :)

I would at least yank the flywheel or if it has an inspection port (on top of flywheel) inspect coils for cracking epoxy. ALL the old OMC coils crack from the new style "universal mag" until someone replaced the coils later.

Condensers are suspect. Likely 80% or more that I test fail high voltage leakage tests

I warm up condensers and test them with a -----MERC-O-TRONIC -----Magneto analyzer.----They test OK when cold and often fail when warmed up.

I have two Mer-O-Tronics which need rebuilt. I acquired a "Bruno" military tester and very useful

for anyone interested visit the Western region AOMCI site for great articles (1-4) on condensers , how to rebuild them and how to test them with a home made tester (3 versions) . I built version one the simpler model and it works great .

if you do want to build such a simple tester the diagram must be obtained from the Author mr. Mohat ( see article & notice)
