I have a 2013 E-Tec 250 HP Outboard, Motor runs fine with the exception of dying when shifting from either Forward to Neutral or Reverse to Neutral.
It restarts just fine and shifts from Neutral to either forward or reverse ok, just not from either gear to neutral.
Someone suggested it's the start neutral safety switch, but I assumed this switch only prevented the motor from starting in gear.
Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks/Jerry

Not sure what electronic wizardry is on these motor these days.------You are right the neutral switch prevented starting in gear.-----But earlier motor had a SHIFTSWITCH on the motor linkages.----It cut out spark to 3 cylinders momentarily to make shifting easier.----Your E-tec shop if you can find one will help on this.

try the folks at the ETEC user board
you can also do searches in case this issue came up before

here is one example...

Thanks Crosbyman,

Went to the E-Tec site you mentioned above, apparently this is a problem for a lot of folks. After reading several post I seen that many users replaced the shift Switch and still had the problem, we'll be taking it to the dealer this week.
I'll do a follow up post once we get it back.

Thanks/Jerry
