I need help wiring my mercruiser 470

So basically i got a mercruiser 470 and i wnted to rewire it and found that picture but i dont get the wiring between the starter and the slave solenoid can anyone help ?? Thanks

welcome aboard.

just wire it like the picture. slave solenoid goes to the S terminal on the starter

coil gets wired to the I/R terminal on the starter in parallel with the resistor wire.

Will i destroy the coil if i just connect the wire from the battery directly to the coil??

And to start connect the wire from the slave that isnt connected to anything to the positive ??

So with this diagram wich do i have to connect to run it and btw the engine is outside the boat

Ok so i wired it like the diagram well only the parts needed to start and well when i put the wire to the battery the slave solenoid just clicked but when i shorted both the small studs on the slave solenoid it cranked the engine but no spark but i still presisted until i got it to sparj like 3 times but that was it , so umm would anyone know what the problem is would love for your thoughts

And how does that resistive wire work??
suggest you start googling points style ignition to get the understanding of what you have

in the stickies at the top of the forum is a list of links


in that list of links look at links 18 and 19

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,..... Ya need to service the Points,......

ok so i got a lot of knowledge from that thanks so now my question is what ohm rating should the resistance wire be and what do you think the problem is with my spark could it be the slave solenoid or maybe just wrong wiring ??

i have heard about these petronix stuff for the coil and condeser would that be good or just stick to oem and where could i buy these parts to service the points

ohh and was wondering if there should be a jumper wire between the two small posts on the slave solenoid, cause only when i jump those two will the engine crank , thanks
