Engine coupler

Pulled the outdrive and serviced the water pump. When I started the motor the prop didn't turn nor did the drive shaft. Sounds like the engine coupler. Pulled drive out and it does not look to bad. Now what to do

inspect the coupler. could also be gears at the top of the drive are toast. pull the cap and look

Did it work before the water pump maint?
by drive shaft you mean input shaft into drive that is barely visible between coupler and transom housing isn’t turning? Or do you mean prop shaft?

pull drive and inspect driveshaft splines for damage and look into coupler inspect for damage or pointed splines.
