Volvo AQ225 dipstick crossover

Hi,
I just recently acquired a boat that has a Volvo AQ225 (305 V8). It came missing a dipstick. The local Volvo dealer says it’s discontinued. Will a SBC dipstick and tube work from a truck around the same vintage? I can get one of these. The boat is a 1983 Sun Runner bow rider.

You might get lucky with a truck tube and stick but often they are routed different.

You may be better off buying a used stick that fits the tube, cutting it and marking it yourself

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,.... The odds of a truck dipstick bein' right, is pretty slim,....

If you can find one that's to long, it could be modified to work,.....
I've had good luck, repurposing ole speedo cable, into a dipstick,.....

The drawback is findin' the new proper level mark,....

truck dipstick tube has no reason to go to the bottom of the pan like the original and the tube on a truck is only 6-7 inches long.
the dipstick tube is part number 841544
the dipstick is part number 835414

If all else fails then try this. Most probably your engine uses 5 quarts of oil. Drain the oil and get a new filter. Put 5 quarts in the engine and get any dipstick that that hits the bottom of the pan, cut and mark the stick where it shows full after starting the engine.

Yeah I think this is route I’ll go. I know the quantity so I’ll go from there. I have a buddy that has a good collection of sbc’s so I’ll see what he has.
