Good Morning!
I have a guys boat that I am working on and I have run into a little problem. Outdrive info and identification.
The boat is a 1992 Chapparal Signature 28 and has twin Volvo Penta DP's on it and he bought it from a harbor in California, so yes, it sat/ran in sea water. That being said, the identification plates on both outdrives are gone. The securing pins are there, just no ID plates. And as anyone can probably guess, I called a VP dealer near me and they were no help without those identification numbers.
When he bought it, the starboard drive was stuck in gear. He paid someone to "fix" it and it stuck in gear a second time and that's why I have it now. I'll try to explain this fix the best I can and as quickly as I can....
-Why someone wouldn't replace the rubber parts while the drive off is beyond my comprehension.....
-I would imagine the lack of identification numbers is why they couldn't find the proper gaskets and decided to use RTV instead.
-obvious water in the drive. Either from the dried up bellows or not enough RTV.... Make your guess. haha
-Shims on upper bearing were only half way in place
-AND... lower housing is cracked due to freezing water in the oil.
I have the drive apart and the cone has number 854222 stamped on it. I can't find this number anywhere on the internet.
I found one site that has great schematics for these VP's as long as you know what drive you have.
Can anyone help with this off the info I provided so I can find some parts?
Thanks!
