Hi. I have a 1976 cruisers bar harbor. 351 mercruiser engine and MC1 out drive. I fixed a brush in the pump motor, reinstalled and drained the oil from the complete system. Refilled and was bleeding but no fluid is coming out going down..

If I have everything hooked up it will go up great. 8-10 seconds from full down . It will go down but will need help towards the end. There is no resistance when going down. I can lift the outdrive and hold it while pushing down button.. is my pump shot? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

If you had the pump apart, then it's full of air and needs to be bled. Normally that can be done by just trimming up and down (making sure the reservoir stays full) until all the air purges. But if you are having problems, they is a procedure in the manual for bleeding air by disconnecting the aft end of the rams and pointing them in the right direction to get as much air out as quickly as possible.

Also make sure the 'VENT' screw isn't tightened all the way down. It needs to be loose so air can get into the reservoir as oil is pushed into the cylinder, and out again as oil returns.

Yep.

The bleed process is quite simple, add fluid to the top of the reservoir when the drive is full down/in. Run the drive up until the pump aerates, then back down. Top off again, repeat until drive makes full sweep up/down smoothly with no aeration. Top off reservoir when the drive is in the full down/in position

Thank you for the info! I can bleed the system up and have solid flow. When I try to retract cylinders when disconnected I get nothing, Pump runs but rams do not move - I Tried bleeding the down on the "trim cylinder accessory" per instructions and I am not even getting air from bleed hole. Is it possible my pump is good in the up direction but bad in the down? or is there something i may be overlooking?

Thanks for the help!

I should elaborate - When i remove the aft end of rams and tie up at horizontal position they will not retract at all when down button is pressed

If the pump motor is running, then you have a problem in the pump itself.

Does your system have a reverse lock valve attached to the shift linkage? Will both rams completely retract when you push them when running the pump in the down direction?
When was the last time the system worked correctly?
Post a picture of the shift linkage at the reverse lock valve if there is one.

Yes it has the reverse lock attached to shift linkage. Both rams will retract when I push them while the down button is pushed. Unknown when it last worked correctly. Was in the water last summer so I can only assume it worked then as I just purchased it a few weeks ago the oil was milky that was in there and one of the motor brushes was stuck hence the reason I pulled it out and drained the fluid.. I will post a picture in the morning of the reverse lock. Thanks!
