Many? Most? What engines are you looking at installing? Certainly anything from 1980 or so and newer, and plenty of older stuff as well.My friend has a old style alpha one outdrive. the length of shaft is 21.96mm. How can I know what year and model mercuruiser engine it can fit?
He bought from somebody else. But it cannot fit his engine. So he just makes it clear while selling to othersMany? Most? What engines are you looking at installing? Certainly anything from 1980 or so and newer, and plenty of older stuff as well.
That's the old MC-1 inline engine yoke. Will only fit pre-1982 inline engines (120, 140, 165, 470).The length of shaft is 21.96mm.
Thank you Achris replying. Yes. My friend has a new style of outdrive, so he can change the yoke. What is the issue of ratio? That's the old MC-1 inline engine yoke. Will only fit pre-1982 inline engines (120, 140, 165, 470).
But if you (or your friend) want to make it fit a later engine, or a V6 or V8, then just change the yoke...
The other thing you need to know is the ratio.
Chris....
Yes. there is an issue of propellerDrives come is a number of different ratios.
Generally, V8s use a 1.5:1 reduction, V6s use either 1.65 or 1.84 and the GM 4 online use 1.98.
You can't put a 1.5 behind a 3L, you just couldn't find a prop small enough.... Or a 1.94 behind a V8 in a small boat, you'd need a prop bigger than they make....
Chris...
Pic looks like an alpha, no?That's the old MC-1 inline engine yoke. Will only fit pre-1982 inline engines (120, 140, 165, 470).

Achris said it is alpha one old styleThat doesn't look like an mc-1.
Pic looks like an alpha, no?
Hi Achris, What direction does the flywheel turn when we look at the sterm? No, achris didn't identify the drive, just that the yoke length corresponded to the yoke from an inline MC1...
The gear housing could be MR or Alpha One (look at the cav plate). And the drive shaft housing could be R, MR or Alpha One... (Only the serial number will tell which)
Chris...
Viewed from the stern looking forward, the flywheel would turn counterclockwise...Hi Achris, What direction does the flywheel turn when we look at the sterm?
Clockwise or CounterClockwise, I am testing the outdriver if it can work or not
So the shaft turns in the CounterClockwise too, Is it correct? But the propeller turns in the Clockwise while forward, is it correct?Viewed from the stern looking forward, the flywheel would turn counterclockwise...
Chris.
Yes. In forward the prop turns the OPPOSITE direction to the engine...But the propeller turns in the Clockwise while forward, is it correct?
It seems that outboard engine is different from inboard engine.Yes. In forward the prop turns the OPPOSITE direction to the engine...
About the only similarity between a 2 stroke outboard engine and a 4 stroke inboard is that they are both called 'engine'...It seems that outboard engine is different from inboard engine.
