Which lower unit should I be looking for

So I have a 1992 johnson 140 J140tlens. I’m looking for a lower unit that will work for this motor. I just recently bought an evinrude unit and it won’t work. Please help I need to get on the water!!!

You got the wrong lower unit from a different series of motors..-----A 1992 140 Johnson and a 1992 140 Evinrude have exactly the same lower unit.

I guess I need to repeat-----Evinrude lower units will work on your big Johnson looper.----Get on some websites and compare part numbers.-----Or call a retailer that knows what fits.

As mentioned previously, the issue op is that you don't grasp how to determine what series of model motors are compatible.

You either spend some time digging and researching or approach a retailer that sells Johnson/evinrude lower units.

Do some real digging and then ask your remaining questions or ask for help from a good marine parts retailer.

There are zero shortcuts here, you learn or you pay someone qualified who already does know. Whether that be from buying from them or service labor.
