I have a 1989 four winns vista 245 with a 7.5l 460 cobra. Cobra outdrive. Couple of issues, when I place the throttle in neutral, the prop still spins. And when I go in to reverse, well it does not go in reverse it still goes forward. Is this a cable issue? At control or motor? Please help!🤔. This is a single stick single prop setup.

Most likely the cable from the transom to the drive is broken. Get a Genuine OMC service manual that covers your model.

I have the manual, just trying to find out if anyone has had the same problem
Ayuh,.... I doubt anybody has that motor/ drive combo,.....

It's a dark horse, that was only 'round a very short time, with no parts or support for it anymore,.....

If ya Love the boat, you should be shoppin' for a Volvo, or Merc driveline swap,....

Believe me I have considered that, but that motor purrs. I bought this boat with the notion that it did need some work, I've put a lot of work into it. Outdrive goes forward really well. Reverse will not engage. I'm trying to exhaust all options before I have to swap
