@Jakem- before you put a new carb on did you resolve the fuel contamination issue ? You dont want to pollute a new carb with debris

Would also recommend a 4 bbl if you are going to upgrade, I saw much better mid range throttle response when I went from Mercarb to Edlebrock

agreed even my little 4.3 benefited from the Rochester 4bbl...Holley has both 2bbl and 4bbl carbs already calibrated for the Ford 302, I'd make a decision about 2 vs 4 bbl and use one of those.
Of course if you want to move up to the 4bbl you have to find a good intake for the 302. If you have closed cooling you can use an aluminum one.

this one is the 4bbl, 450 CFM

this one is the 2bbl, 300 CFM

I'm not sure why Holley specs carbs that seem to be low in CFM for this engine, even my 4.3 V6 has a 600 CFM Q-Jet, and the unit that Holley specified for this engine is also a 600 CFM

Scott, any thoughts?

I would run a 600 CFM 4150 myself.

Volvo put 715 CFM holleys on 350's While some argue its overkill, cant complain about the mid-range throttle response.

4150 has the advantage of 4 corner idle adjustment, external float adjustment and fuel level sight plugs but with the fuel inlets on both bowls it is a good bit longer than the 4160 with the side fuel inlet. Don't think it would fit on a 4.3 but on a Ford 302 it shouldn't be a problem.

The fuel contamination is fixed and installed the anti siphon. Changed filters. Gas is good and clean. I do have closed cooling. To go from 2 barrel to 4 is about 2000 from what I can tell.

should be $50-100 for a used intake manifold and the cost of a carb and a gasket set. heck if you want all new components and paid someone to do the work you wouldnt be over $1000

$2000 is about 4 to 5x of actual cost.

I know that a 650 CFM double pumper fits on a Buick V6

Even with that big OMC style thermostat housing? I think they used the 4160 with the side mount fuel inlet on the 4.3s because of that. I don’t think a front fuel inlet Holley will fit on the 4.3s. Not sure with those old Buicks haven’t seen one in years.

Ho did it run after that was pinging gone?
Would the 500 cfm on eBay be to many cfm or no. Also does it matter that it says omc
500 cfm will be fine for a 302 nit sure what ebay link you are referring to. Unsure if omc uses a different throttle linkage.

Certainly understandable, you want to get it to the point where you mostly turn it on and use it vs working on it. Personally would hold off and get a 4 bbl as the rochester if jetted correctly should work fine. Unless there is something wrong with it you wont see any gain Just getting a new 2 bbl.
rochesters are not the most sophisticated carb but im a fan due to simplicity . quite a long run from mid 50’s through its descendant the Mercarb that made it until 2010 or so…i might be jaded though, the pic is three of them on my GTO.

This will make you feel better about your boat- took me 30 years from when I bought it as a non running/ non driver project to get it road worthy..
that is a lot of blood, sweat and beers
