Greetings all!
I have a Princecraft 19.6 Special edition 2002 MerCruiser 4.3 MPI. I have had intermittent leaks at the rear transom area. Pulled the engine and transom plate and am down to a naked transom. My question is, when installing the new transom gasket, should I apply a bead of 4200 to the gasket on both sides to seal the foam gasket to the boat and the gimble housing. I have not found much info on what it requires. It looks as if it would have been done at the factory originally my boat would have not leaked. Thanks for your input in advance!

the factory service manual tells you how much and what type of sealant to use. However transom gaskets dont fail, usually the transom does. having a leak on a boat 15 years old or older is usually the structure.

suggest you take a look at the transom and do a test drill or two into the core.

It's on an aluminum boat stored inside with an open transom (does not have aluminum on both sides). I've already proven the leak looking at the gasket. Transom is solid, as I have pulled the engine and have access to the entire transom. I will check with the manual. Thanks for your reply!

If the transom is solid and flat as specified then only a dry gasket is needed to seal. Torque to specTransom Thickness.jpg
