Just finished replacing the exhaust cover. I should have left the recoil and just loosened it a bit and slid the exhaust cover (if that's possible). Anyway I'm looking about 6 feet of unwound spring; the rest still there. A while back I did replace the cord without any problem as I didn't have to remove/loosen the recoil unit. Any advice on how to undue and do get it back on the motor. BTW - I hate recoils and never had good luck with them thanks

here is what I do... up to you

install the recoil with the spring hooked in but sticking the slot
manually wind the cord around the recoil then pull on it . The looseend of the spring will be sucked in the spring " chamber"

block the recoil

rewind the cord manually again then pull it out again this will further tension the spring inside the recoil spring chamber till it is all sucked in and hooks on the side port

when you feel you have enough tension to fully rewind the cord after you pull it out install the handle.

don'T forget that silly washer inside the recoil !!

done.!

Thanks! I'll give it a try (probably more than one). I know exactly what you mean about the washer

That gentleman has videos where he tries to remove the tapered dowel on OMC motors.-----Drives them in the wrong direction.-----For entertainment purposes only !!!
