Hello everyone! I am working on getting my first boat ready for the water. I ended up finding a 16ft aluminum semi v (I think) that has a Mirro decal on it but the HIN comes back as a McCready Railway that was made in 1982. It came with a 50 hp Force outboard made in 1983 and a 9.8 hp SeaKing outboard neither of which run. It also came with a trailer that has a little surface rust but seems to be in decent shape besides the lights not working. The boat hasn't been in the water since 2013 but was stored covered for most of that time although it sat uncovered for quite awhile.

The boat seems to be in okay shape. There are plenty of scratches on the hull but no major scrapes or dents although I have noticed a few rivets leaking. The deck was soft in a couple of places and none of the electrical on the boat works besides the electric start for the outboards.

The outboards both don't run but they look really clean inside. Although fuel lines, throttle cables, and steering cables all need to be replaced. I would guess at minimum the carbs need cleaned, spark plugs replaced, and lower unit fluid drained/replaced.

Thanks in advance for anyone who is willing to give some advice and please let me know if I am doing something wrong, trust me I can take it. This is my first boat so I have a lot to learn.

Currently, I have the floor of the boat pulled out. It was definitely rotting in a couple of places. I am in the process of pulling the foam out. I debated just adding foam and leaving what I had in but I am glad I decided to take it out. As I was removing it I found that it was saturated with water. Some came out easy but it has been tough in other areas.

Does anyone have any tips for getting the foam out? I am working on the stuff in the bow

Alright I got all the foam removed from the boat. Although I do need to run a wire wheel over the leftover spots. I found that a scoring the surface of the foam and using a straight claw hammer of small pry bar really helps break it up. Also chiseled and scraping tools did a good job as well.

Now I am trying to decide if I need to sand or wire wheel the boat of them boat before adding gluvit or coat-it to the seams and rivets?

3" cup brush on a 2' long drill extension, a cordless drill and a pair of rubber gloves. the cup brush will chew the foam up, then you just vacuum the mess with your wet-dry vac.

I managed to get the foam out. Do you think I need to wire brush the entire inside of the hull before using a dealer like gluvit? There is some paint in places in the bottom.
