So 2 years ago motor was pulled and deck was replaced, all new mounts were pressed in, all was fine, except when doing realinement I had to lower the front all the way down to get a good aline. So now this year just today I can not get a easy push in of the tool without force and is showing it needs more lowering by grease spline marks on the top of tool. Question is should the gimble bearing be replaced so it will align better with the engine on the new mounts? I am at a loss as i can not lower anymore. Thanks for your time.

The process of alignment is to insert the tool and smack it to move the bearing up/down etc prior to fully inserting

So can I raise the engine to center of the front mount adjuster and readjust the gimble bearing? And then fine tune with the front mount?

No. That is not what I said.

You asked in post #1 if you needed to install a new bearing so it will align better.

I stated No, your current bearing should move, and part of the alignment procedure is to move the bearing with the tool

A few things that could cause what you are seeing:

Improper mount height when you redid the boat
Rear mounts are bad or sagging
Coupler is not true

You need to investigate why it won't align.

Ok Scott it was just a question, I did not say that you said that. So I did install new mount bushings when the motor was out in 2020 for the new deck no mounting height was changed so I will look into the coupling, watched a video where they used a 1" pipe to check for initial lineup, would that work to see if there is alot of play in the coupling?

you dont need a section of pipe if you have the alignment tool.

gimbal bearing was stuck. I freed it up before I went into work. I will grease the **** out of it. It is smooth but it just would not rotate. I will raise the motor back up and play with alignment tonight.

OK things are looking much better here, if I’m getting witness marks on the top of the alignment tool, do I need to raise or lower the engine I just can’t wrap my head around that

So if anybody would decide to chime in, I think I figured that I had to lower it because now it’s smooth as butter, but I’m almost all the way bottomed out lowering it. But I guess it is what it is correct me if I’m wrong.
