I have a hard time finding a prop for my 1982 Evinrude V4 90hp crossflow. I am looking for a 23 or 25 pitch prop. Currently running a 21P alloy but I am over 6000rpm at +45mph. Anyone know of a good search? ( on a '70s English 16ft boat)
His numbers are good. My avatar is my 90 Merc pushing a 17.5' aluminum bass boat with a stepped hull, not dead rise but 3 distinct steps with the one on which the boat is riding in the picture about 10" wide.....a "pad" of sorts. It had a 24P SS Ballistic running right at 5800 RPM and 50 MPH. You can judge by the wake (er ah lack of) that it's not loafing along.Generally, motors of that HP on std boats cannot spin a large pitch prop like what you suggest. That is likely why you are finding them to be hard to find. 21" pitch is usually the max for them.
Are you sure that your tach is accurate? Try Turning point props. They should have at least a 23" pitch prop that will fit.
The haul is 15.6 ft by 6.2 foot wide and I had it weighed with engine at 1800lbsIt looks more like a 14ft. What's the Boats Beam?
My experience with '70's fiberglass boats on the low tier of cost amounted to a 15' hull with gell coat, one layer of glass mat, sprayed in paint, a wooden deck providing a space for flotation requirements, a fore deck with the same 1 layer of material...a piece of wood attached therein for a dash and a plastic windshield, and a wood transom reinforcement. Hull was basically flat with a slight V in the bow. You could pick up either end by yourself.Gee, you are comparing an aluminum hull with 3 steps to a fiberglass hull from the 70's? I doubt his performance is nearly as good as yours's.
I see a "reverse chine". Speaks for itself. like tri-hulls of the 70's, the reverse chine captures high intensity spray from the hull below and reverses its direction giving tremendous lift to the boat and I'll bet it's the reason for his numbers. Its a Shakespeare 15.6 foot with a ever so small step in the hull, it has no pad.
I have had the chance to borrow a 23pitch prop and the boat went 52 mph (gps) at 5800 rpm. I am in search of such prop or a cleaver
Fuel use at 25mph was also better with that prop.
