My boat starts with the flip of the key. She will idle in gear, it's struggles and dies when I accelerate, if I push it slowly. It will run rough but I can to WOT and runs great, then I can back of to 1/4 throttle and still runs great. But if I go back to idle, it's struggles on acceleration.

That would be a carbureted engine.-----How did it run for you last season ?----They sound good on 5 of 6 cylinders.----Post actual compression values here.---Does spark jump a gap of 3/8" pm each lead?

Are all the sparkplugs the same clean color ? I would expect them to be as it runs well above low speed.

new problem ? new to you boat ? any changes done ? any carb work done ? good fuel ? tried any engine fuel cleaner ?
Have rebuild the motor, trying to get the link and sink right. I have a manual, im going to try it again.
I did use alligator clips with a 5" welding rods, to make it easier to see the movement. I thought it might be the timing, I bought a timing light, im going to check it before I redo the L&S, could it be the timing?

It's a rebuild motor. I had it running good, but idle was to high, sucking air somewhere, pulled the carbs and reeds,
Now the idle is spot on.
but i'm having trouble getting it right. I have to drive 30 to the lake for all my testing above idle..

Cant make up my mind wether Id go for a set of plugs if you havnt already , but my gut feeling is that ( at least ) one of the carbs needs a good clean.
I take my boat down to the river and back it in until motor is in deep enough to run and then use the river like a dyno so I can run it at speed and under load while Im standing right there fiddling and watching .:)

for the 60*V motors (not sure about the 90* Vee motors), Idle jets are in the throttle bodies, with gaskets and covers over them. Did you clean them? Also, there is an air orifice which can get clogged on the carbs.

Ok guys, this is my setup for lik and sink using wire. It doesn't have enough to get it working together, so just testing i pit a piece of hose over the roller and I can can get it perfect in timing. Here's a pic of the hose im using, and my wire setup

My cam is not sitting in the notch. I used a parts motor that was supposed to be a 95, it had the red plug in. I could have used the wrong one.

Maybe, you have the Parts Motor, and we don't. Just out of curiosity, what Manual are you using?

I have the link and sink set. I was thinking that when it started moving, and fell in to the recess slot, would could be a problem. I'm taking out tomorrow to see how it does

Are the calibration pockets clean? Are the needles set right? Have you tried pumping the primer ball? is the optical eye in good shape?
